Dear Friend, Hummingbirds dazzle us with sparkling colors, display flashes of brilliance and verve; and inspire artists, nature-lovers, and backyard birders alike. They exhibit an extraordinary ratio of energy output to size and have an extensive distribution throughout the Americas. Twenty-five years ago, inspired by this small but mighty bird, American Bird Conservancy (ABC) selected the hummingbird for our logo. At ABC, we are determined to prevent hummingbirds from disappearing. Over the years, with the help of our supporters, our ABC-supported reserves provide habitat for more than half of all hummingbird species. But we have much more work to do! Before it’s too late, we urgently need your help to save the rarest species. With your support, ABC working with a network of international partners and with Birdlife International will take action to protect and increase the rarest hummingbird populations. Your gift will: - Create hummingbird nature reserves. Protect more than 2,800 acres of habitat for species like the Blue-throated Hillstar and the Gray-bellied Comet.
- Plant native trees and shrubs. Restoring degraded lands is critical to prevent the loss of species. To date, ABC has planted more than 6 million trees and shrubs; with your help today, we can plant 70,000 more.
- Conduct field expeditions. ABC and our partners will organize searches to find new locations for rare species in desperate need of conservation.
- Engage local communities. Our 25 years of bird conservation taught us that one of the best ways to achieve results — and sustain them — is to work closely with communities. Across Latin America, our collaborative approach benefits birds, improves people’s livelihoods, and helps to build a local culture of conservation.
Will you help ABC stop hummingbirds from disappearing by making a contribution today? From the Chilean Woodstar in Chile to the Short-crested Coquette in Mexico and many others, your gift will keep colorful, brilliant hummingbirds flying and thriving for generations to come. Please give today. Sincerely, | |
