This package of bills includes permanent reauthorization of the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which supports the protection of federal public lands and waters. Wildlife experts concluded in 2015 that the Greater Sage-Grouse, an iconic bird of the West, did not require listing under the Endangered Species Act (ESA), thanks to then-new federal management plans with added conservation requirements. Those plans have now been undermined and grouse populations are declining. Now, new measures are needed to recover the grouse. | | | | | | Five Women Conservation Champions (You Didn't Learn About In School) To celebrate International Women's Day during the month of March, American Bird Conservancy highlighted a few of the incredible women on our staff. In December 2018, Hawaiian Governor Ige also approved new regulations (HAR §13-232-57.1 and §13-232-57.2) that will prohibit the feeding of wildlife or feral animals, the abandonment of pets, and contributing to colonies of animals at small boat harbors throughout the state. | | | | | | The Truth About Birds and Glass Collisions Glass collisions kill vast numbers of birds in the United States each year. Yet most Americans know little about this danger, and even fewer are aware of the solutions available to help prevent these deaths — fixes that in many cases are easy and inexpensive. To shed light on this pervasive threat, ABC's collisions experts, Christine Sheppard, Ph.D., and Bryan Lenz, Ph.D., put together a list of responses to the 14 questions they are most frequently asked. Take a look. Chances are, we've got an answer for you below. | | | | | | | | | | | American Bird Conservancy PO Box 249, | The Plains, Virginia 20198 (540) 253-5780 | info@abcbirds.org | | Photo captions (top to bottom): Banner: Indigo Bunting, Agnieszka Bacal, Shutterstock; Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Mark Johnson; Scarlet Tanager, Greg Lavaty; Greater-Sage-Grouse, Tom Reichner, Shutterstock; Black-and-white Warbler, Ray Hennessy, Shutterstock; I'iwi, James Petruzzi; Rose-breasted Grosbeak, valleyboi63, Shutterstock | | | | | | |
